And my inner eight-year-old says:
Coooooooooooooooooool.
***
In other news, I've worked out number six for things that piss me off about people:
6. Coins on the notes.
For the record, when I worked in a professional where handing over money was necessary, I never never did this. It drives me bananas when I hold out my hand for the change and the Helpful Harry/Harriet behind the counter puts the notes on first then drops a pile of coins on top of the notes. They may as well give me the notes and toss the coins over my shoulder. How the fuck am I supposed to put that neatly back into a wallet? Especially the fuck when they put the receipt down first then notes then coins. Who in the world just bunches their hand up and stuffs it in their pocket so the notes can float away later while they're looking for the coins? And it's only the real helpful-have-a-nice-day ones who do it too, all perky and friendly and happy like they just made you your own little sand castle right there in the palm of your hand.
Whoops. Time for a coffee. I was getting a bit Finkle'n'Einhorn there. "Laces Out!! Laces Out!!"

Coins first, right in the palm where I can keep them from falling on the floor and notes on the side so I can pinch them with my fingers.
Should be a rap song or something:
"NOTES!/on da siiide"

We were taught that we should count the change back to the customer and that's easier if we do the notes first........How about I just put the change on the counter and you can pick it up any way you choose? Or I could try the coins first thing, but old habits are hard to break.

If it costs $6.40 and you count back the change it goes like this:- 6 dollars 40, and 10 cents makes 50; and 50 cents makes 7 dollars; and 1 dollar makes 8 dollars; and $2 makes $10; and $10 makes $20 - thank you sir/madam. Have a nice day!! River, what you are doing is counting into the customers hand what the computer has told you to count as change - if it is wrong (and they can be) then you will be wrong too. If you do it as above then you and the customer can check your maths every time, and you will be practising your maths instead of just counting to ten every time! It's win win for everyone. Hope this helps

And the coins go in the palm of the hand THEN the notes, whatever complex way you want to count it...
